Backup power
Long-duration backup designed for telecom networks and critical infrastructure. When outages stretch from hours into days, hydrogen keeps running after batteries quit.
DESIGN TARGET: 500–2,000 W · ≈44 kWh
Backup power systemsThe same low-cost PEM hydrogen fuel cell architecture, packaged for the places where batteries and diesel fall short.

Backup power systems
Fuel cell engines in development for three-wheeler transport and four-wheeler delivery fleets across India and other markets — refuel in minutes, run all day.

Fuel cell engines
Battery packs are expensive and last only 200–300 full discharge cycles. Lightweight fuel cells are designed to extend drone flight range up to three times over.
TARGET: 3× RANGE · LIGHTWEIGHT STACKS
UAV powerTechnology
A PEM fuel cell converts the chemical energy in hydrogen directly into electricity — no combustion, no moving parts in the stack, and up to 2 times the efficiency of burning the same fuel. The only byproduct is pure water.
Our R&D focuses on air-cooled stack designs engineered for cost: fewer parts, simpler balance of plant, and manufacturing methods chosen for scale.
| Conversion | Electrochemical — hydrogen + oxygen → electricity + water |
|---|---|
| Efficiency | Up to 2 times traditional combustion technologies |
| Emissions at point of use | None — pure water byproduct |
| Cooling architecture | Air-cooled stacks |
| Refueling | Minutes, from standard hydrogen cylinders |
The company
Protonas was founded in 2024 by Peter David DeVries, a fuel cell industry veteran since 1996 who helped guide the world's first commercially successful air-cooled fuel cells at ReliOn. The company is establishing engineering and manufacturing operations in Bangalore — backed by a seed round led by Transition VC.
Engineering, product design, and manufacturing — close to the fleet and infrastructure markets Protonas serves.
Whether you are evaluating backup power, electrifying a delivery fleet, or extending drone flight time — we would like to hear about it.
